Jonathan Merkh

President and Publisher

Jonathan Merkh has been in book publishing for more than twenty-five years. His career encompasses marketing, sales, distribution, agenting, and ministry through work at Thomas Nelson Publishers, Guideposts, the William Morris Agency, and Simon & Schuster.

Jonathan spent fourteen years with Thomas Nelson Publishers in various roles, starting in the Resource Division and culminating in a post as senior vice-president and publisher of the flagship imprint, the Nelson Books division.

While there, he published more than twenty New York Times bestsellers, including works by Robin McGraw, Dave Ramsey, John and Stasi Eldredge, Dr. John C. Maxwell, Donald Miller, and Andy Andrews. A graduate of Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management, Jonathan also launched the Nelson business and political imprints.

In March 2009, Jonathan Merkh joined Simon & Schuster Publishers, one of America’s largest publishing houses owned by the CBS television network (Now Viacom). During his tenure with Simon & Schuster, he oversaw the Howard Books division, publishing more than forty New York Times bestsellers, five at the number-one slot. Those best sellers include Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership, Brad Paisley’s Diary of a Player, and books by William Paul Young, comedian Tim Conway, and Debbie Macomber.

In 2013, Howard Books made publishing history by selling more than six million copies of six different books from the Duck Dynasty’s Robertson family, all of which made the New York Times list in a twelve-month period—two titles at the number one slot and the rest in the top ten.

Jonathan Merkh’s extensive and varied experience rounds out his perspective on every aspect of book publishing. He has been interviewed and quoted by national media such as The Wall Street Journal, NPR, and Variety.

Jonathan has a B.A. in Bible and cross-cultural communications from Welch College and a master’s in Business Administration from Vanderbilt University.
